Fall Equinox: Stepping Into Personal Power

As the days and nights stand in perfect balance, the Fall Equinox arrives with an invitation: pause, breathe, and reclaim your power. This is a moment of equilibrium — when light and dark share the sky equally — reminding us that we, too, can find harmony even when life feels uncertain.
This year, this seasonal shift feels deeply personal for me. My husband and I are both facing upcoming health challenges, and this time of year reminds me to stand firmly in my own strength. Balance does not mean that everything is easy — it means that we can hold both fear and courage, both worry and hope, and choose to keep moving forward.
Finding Strength in Song
When I think about personal power, one song immediately comes to mind: This Is My Fight Song by Rachel Platten.
This message has constantly reminded me that no matter how small or quiet my voice may feel, my spirit is unshakable. Listening to this song during this turning of the season is my way of affirming:
“I will keep showing up. I will keep choosing life, love, and hope. I will not give up my light.”
The Meaning of This Season
The Fall Equinox is a harvest of lessons — a time to look back at what has grown in your life since spring, and a time to choose what to carry with you into the darker half of the year.
It asks:
What have you learned this year that has made you stronger?
What do you want to leave behind before winter’s quiet arrives?
Where can you reclaim your power and step fully into yourself?
Personal Power Ritual: “Lighting the Flame Within”
You’ll need:
A single candle (red, orange, or white)
Paper & pen
A small bowl of water
Step 1: Center YourselfTake three deep, slow breaths. Say aloud: “I stand in the space between light and dark. I choose my power.”
Step 2: Write Your Power Statement. On the paper, write a phrase that affirms your inner strength. Examples:
“I have faced hard things and I am still here.”
“I trust my resilience.”
“I step into my own light.”
Step 3: Light the Candle. As you light the flame, imagine your inner fire glowing stronger. Hold the paper and read your statement aloud with confidence.
Step 4: Seal the Intention. Dip the edge of the paper into the bowl of water to symbolize balance — fire and water, light and dark. Keep the paper on your altar, mirror, or nightstand as a reminder of your commitment to yourself.
Simple Ways to Honour the Equinox
Walk in Nature: Notice the colours shifting, the crispness in the air, and the signs of change.
Cook a Harvest Meal: Roasted vegetables, warm bread, spiced cider — foods that nourish and ground.
Journal: Reflect on what balance looks like for you right now.
Listen to Music That Inspires: Play songs that lift your spirit and remind you of your strength (yes, including Fight Song!).
My Final Thoughts
The Fall Equinox is not just about balance — it’s about choosing to keep showing up even when life feels heavy. This season, I am claiming my space, my voice, and my strength.
If you are facing challenges, may this post remind you that you are not alone. Together, we can step into this season with courage, lighting our inner flames and carrying them into the months ahead.
With love & resilience, Sue — The Sage and Seer
